Layers and volumes

We brought the balance wheel and escapement to the dial side — a fundamental shift that offers a fresh mechanical perspective. The face of the watch comes to life with a constant, visible pulsation — pure and without artifice.

Minimalist and refined, the dial integrates seamlessly into the construction of the watch, appearing to merge with the whole. Off-centered and seemingly suspended above the mainplate, thanks to its pillars like construction reminding the watches of the past, it engages in a subtle dialogue with the balance wheel, creating a play of layers and volumes that gives the timepiece a unique three-dimensional architecture.

Technical

In house modified ETA 2824 calibre.

Just enough new tailormade pieces to showcase real mechanics in a simple and sleek way. We focus on the essential.

Its warm, scratch-resistant PMMA crystal nods to watches of the past while embracing modern treatment for enhanced scratch resistance.

Heritage

Born in the heart of La Chaux-de-Fonds, shaped by the vision of Charles-Léon Schmid, and built on the industrial expertise behind the legendary watches, National Watch has always embodied a balance between accessibility and uncompromising quality.

1813–1889

Roskopf’s Idea – Georges-Frédéric Roskopf (1813–1889) created the “proletarian watch” in 1867: reliable, simple, affordable.

1874

The Schmid Factory – In 1874, Roskopf’s business passed to Charles-Léon Schmid and the Wille brothers. By 1891 the Schmid factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds employed nearly 100 workers and pioneered mechanised watch production.

1896-1914

Awards :

Médaille d’Or, Geneva 1896

Diplôme d’Honneur, Milan 1906

Grand Prix, Brussels 1910

Grand Prix, Berne 1914

1904-1919

National Watch & Co. – Registered in 1904, alongside Saphir, Supremo, Labor. In 1919 Schmid acquired the National Watch and Saphir marks from Eberhard & Cie.

1920-1930

Catalogues of the 1920s–30s – Cushion and rectangular wristwatches, extra-flat pocket watches, even experimental “Truisa” keychain-lantern watches. Always industrial, always varied.

1947

1947 – Reborn as Manufacture de Montres National SA. New logo: N over W, “Fondée en 1867.”

1950

1950s – Automatics, early electrical models of the era, constant Impulse escapements, and calendars in 18K gold plated cases. Men’s, women’s, exported worldwide.

1966-1973

1966 & 1973 – Registered as Montres National SA, with Super Marine among the marks.
